Mission
Blood vessels are tubular structures that form a closed loop, which purpose is to transport nutrients, gases, hormones and cells to and from all tissues. These vessels are dynamic and elastic structures, composed by cell types such as endothelium, smooth muscle, and pericytes, which are all interdependent and are supported by elastic tissue (collagen and elastic fibers).
Furthermore, under physiological conditions the vascular network is a fundamental component for growth and tissue development. This network is affected by a number of clinical conditions that are a direct consequence of alterations in the functioning of the vascular wall. Classically it is known that hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, inflammatory or infectious processes as well as the healing process require a appropriate functioning of the vasculature. Therefore, vascular health is an inclusive concept that indicates how blood vessels function normally, and how their alteration may impact the development of diseases.
Research in the area of vascular health is transversal, where there is a wide field of action that involves the development of new research methodologies and diagnostic tools, as well as new options for treatment. Then, this development of this field requires multidisciplinary teams that support the progress of knowledge in the area, which in turn may allow to have a healthier community.
In this context GRIVAS is a group of basic-clinical researchers who are interested in the understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms related to the functioning of blood vessels in different vascular beds, and how vessels alterations are involved in the development of human diseases. This knowledge will allow us to contribute in the development of innovative clinical applications for diagnosis and treatment.
Scope
GRIVAS will be the meeting point between the basic and applied research carried out at national and international level, which is looking, through the deep understanding of physiological and pathophysiological mechanisms of vascular function, become a research group globally recognized in the research and innovation regarding vascular health. Researchers belong to Health GRIVAS want to contribute in the development of new alternatives for diagnostic and treatment of pathologies characterized by vascular dysfunction and/or damage.
Misión
Los vasos sanguíneos forman un circuito cerrado de estructuras tubulares cuya finalidad es transportar nutrientes, gases, hormonas y células desde y hacia todos los tejidos de cualquier ser vivo, incluyendo por supuesto el hombre. Son además estructuras dinámicas y elásticas, compuestas a su vez por distintas capas celulares, incluyendo (desde el interior al exterior), células endoteliales, musculares, y pericitos, que son interdependientes y que están sujetas por un tejido elástico de sostén.
Los vasos sanguíneos constituyen además un componente fundamental de los tejidos, con el cual interactúan a fin de contribuir con su crecimiento y desarrollo. Por ello, prácticamente todas las enfermedades en el ser humano, están asociadas o son debidas a una alteración en el normal funcionamiento de los vasos sanguíneos. Ejemplos clásicos de estas enfermedades, son la hipertensión, las enfermedades cerebrovasculares, el cáncer, los procesos inflamatorios o infecciosos, los procesos de cicatrización, entre otras. Por tanto, la salud vascular, es un concepto integrador que indica como funcionan normalmente los vasos sanguíneos, y como impactarían las enfermedades en dichos procesos.
Además, la investigación de la salud vascular es una área transversal, en donde se reconoce un amplio campo de desarrollo de nuevas metodologías, implementos y equipos que ayuden al desarrollo del mismo conocimiento y como consecuencia al mejoramiento de la salud humana.
En este contexto GRIVAS es una agrupación de investigadores enfocados en dilucidar los mecanismos celulares y moleculares de los problemas relacionados con el funcionamiento de los vasos sanguíneos. Así como también se ocupan de la búsqueda de las aplicaciones clínicas y de innovación que se desprenden de dicho conocimiento.
Visión
GRIVAS será el punto de confluencia entre la investigación básica y aplicada desarrollada a nivel nacional e internacional, que busca; a través del profundo conocimiento de los mecanismos ligados a la función vascular, convertirse en un grupo reconocido a nivel global en la investigación e innovación en al área temática de la salud vascular.
